Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, who is an acclaimed writer and actor, feels that Telugu Cinema is distancing itself from certain sections of the audience. He calls this development unfortunate. Maruthi Rao made these comments on Sunday in Delhi, where he was honoured at the 26th Cultural Festival of the Delhi Telugu Academy.
“I have worked with three generations of writers, actors and technicians. These days, Telugu cinema has become completely commercial and as a result, certain sections of the audience are moving away from us. This is unfortunate”, he said.
The sentiment was echoed by Justice Jasthi Chalameswar, who also present at the event. “Cinema is a commercial art. But in the early days, producers aspired for profits in lakhs. Today, the aspiration for profits is in crores. We need to stay within acceptable limits while pursuing profits”, he said.
