The long-awaited collaboration between Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam finally arrived with Thug Life, hitting theatres worldwide today amidst sky-high expectations. But to the dismay of many fans, the film failed to live up to the hype.

Despite the excitement surrounding the release, Thug Life couldn’t strike a chord with most viewers, especially those who watched the early shows. What was expected to be a powerful cinematic experience turned out to be a flat and forgettable outing.

Amidst the mixed reactions, Dulquer Salmaan’s fans are breathing a sigh of relief. Many are unaware that Dulquer was originally cast in the film to play the role of Amar – a part that eventually went to Silambarasan (Simbu). The actor opted out in March 2024 due to scheduling issues.

Now, after seeing how the film turned out, Dulquer’s fans are taking to social media, grateful for his decision. They’re praising his script choices and sense of direction, happy that he passed on the project despite the chance to work with icons like Kamal Haasan, Nassar, and Mani Ratnam.

When he stepped away, some felt Dulquer was letting go of a golden opportunity. But in hindsight, many believe he dodged a bullet – and made a smart call.

Thug Life also features Abhirami, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, and others – though most of them are barely given any substantial material to work with. We’ll have to wait and see how the film fares in the coming days, but for now, Thug Life has clearly missed the mark.
