Retro, the first collaboration between Suriya and director Karthik Subbaraj, released on Thursday to mixed reviews across India. The film features Pooja Hegde as the female lead and promised a unique blend of style and nostalgia.
Despite high expectations, the film didn’t provide the much-needed comeback for Suriya, who is fondly called the adopted son of Tollywood. In the Telugu states, Retro struggled to make an impact, collecting just around Rs. 17 lakh share in the Nizam region on Day 3, with negligible numbers elsewhere. While Sunday may see a slight improvement, the film is expected to wrap up its run in the region by Monday.
In Tamil Nadu, the film is also facing a tough time at the box office, with stiff competition from Tourist Family. It remains to be seen how the numbers hold up in the coming days.
Joju George, Vidhu, Nasser, Jayaram, and others played key roles in the film, which is backed by Stone Bench Films and 2D Entertainment. Santhosh Narayanan composed the music.
