On May Day, Kollywood saw two releases: Retro and a small-budget film named Tourist Family. Without an ounce of doubt, Retro was the first preference for the audience at its time of release, as it was fronted by Suriya. There was some buzz around the Tourist Family, too, but many thought it would be overshadowed by the Suriya starrer.

However, the situation has changed completely, and the Tourist Family has started to dominate Retro at the Tamil Nadu box office. This Sasikumar starrer had a modest start on the expected lines, but with glowing word of mouth and excellent reviews, the film picked up steam.

The comedy drama is seeing superb occupancies even on working days, and on weekends, the film is exhibiting humongous growth. According to trade reports, the movie has till now grossed Rs. 38 crores in the home market and is expected to finish above Rs. 50 crores in the long run. Today, the film is said to have earned Rs. 3 crores gross, which is outstanding on a second Monday.

Written and directed by newcomer Abishan Jeevinth, Tourist Family also stars Simran, Mithun Jai Shankar, Kamalesh, Yogi Babu, Ramesh Thilak, and M.S. Bhaskar in key roles. Produced by Million Dollar Studios and MRP Entertainment, the music is scored by Sean Roldan.
