Sitaare Zameen Par: Did Aamir Khan change his mind?

The next big outing from Bollywood is Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par. It is a sports comedy-drama directed by RS Prasanna and also features Genelia Deshmukh in a pivotal role. The movie, which is the official adaptation of the Spanish film Champions, is set to release on June 20.

Initially, Aamir Khan planned to release the film in limited theatres without going for a full-scale release. This decision has come as a shocker for movie buffs. The actor was looking to release the film on 1000 to 1500 screens in India and then increase the screen count over the weekend based on audience demand.

According to a report in Pink Villa, Aamir Khan has changed his mind now. The single-screen and non-national multiplex owners were reportedly not okay with Aamir’s initial plan. It is said that they reached out to Aamir and convinced him to have a wide release on 3000-3500 screens.

Reportedly, the exhibitors are confident that the film’s content and Aamir’s factor will draw audiences over the weekend. Originally, Aamir decided to give his film a platform release (Limited Release) because of the change in audiences’ dynamics post the pandemic. Since Aamir is not willing to release Sitaare Zameen Par on any OTT platform, he thought of experimenting with the film.

With a platform release, the opening numbers will be significantly low, and this might adversely affect the film’s prospects and Aamir’s reputation to a large extent. Though the pre-release buzz isn’t great, Sitaare Zameen Par can still create a good impact at the box office if the reports are good. But for that to happen, the wide release is a must.
