Not just in Telugu cinema but also in Indian cinema, if there’s one path-breaking industry hit, it would undoubtedly be Nagarjuna and Ram Gopal Varma’s Shiva. Breaking the existing format of filmmaking back then, the movie offered audiences a whole new cinematic experience. Recently, Ram Gopal Varma shared some interesting memories about Shiva.
Varma said, “If my father gave me birth, then it was Nagarjuna who gave me a second life by trusting me and giving me an opportunity with Shiva.” Varma also recalled how, during a strike at that time, there were hurdles in completing the audio work, and it had to be done in Bombay. That’s when Nagarjuna reportedly told him, “Even if it means reducing my remuneration, let the work not stop.”
RGV credited the entire success to Nagarjuna’s faith in his vision. “Only because of that belief was everything possible,” concluded Varma. Now, this iconic film is gearing up for a grand re-release in multiple languages soon as Annapurna Studios completes 50 glorious years.
