Veteran Bollywood producer Salim Akhtar, who passed away at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday, 8 April 2025, after prolonged illness, was laid to rest at the graveyard near Irla Mosque in JVPD, Mumbai, on April 9. Salim (82) is survived by his wife, Shama Akhtar, and their son, Samad Akhtar.
Salim was renowned for launching popular actresses Rani Mukerji with Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat in 1997 and Tamannaah Bhatia in Chand Sa Roshan Chehra (2005). He produced superhits such as Qayamat (1983), Loha (1987), Batwara (1989), Phool Aur Angaare (1993), and Aamir Khan’s Baazi (1995).
Veteran Bollywood stars Firoz Khan, Raj Babbar, Raza Murad, and others paid their last respects to Salim Akhtar during his funeral. Salim’s passing came across as a major loss for the Hindi film industry as it still mourns the loss of legendary actor-filmmaker Manoj Kumar.
