Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn is back as the fearless IRS officer Amay Patnaik in Raid 2, the sequel to the superhit Raid. Raj Kumar Gupta, who directed the first installment, also helmed the sequel. The movie is now out in theatres. This time, the income tax raid targets a powerful politician played by Ritesh Deshmukh.
This Ajay Devgn-led crime thriller registered good advances, selling around 86,000 tickets in the national chains (PVR, Inox, Cinepolis) for the opening day. The advance is slightly bigger than that of Ajay Devgn’s superhit Shaitaan. According to trade experts, Raid 2 is expected to open at Rs. 15 crores—Rs. 17 crores nett.
Looking at the Book My Show trend this morning, the said figure is very much possible. Raid 2 is on track to be Bollywood’s third biggest opener this year after Chhaava and Sikandar. If the reports and word of mouth are favorable, the opening day collection could inch towards the Rs. 20 crore nett mark.
Vaani Kapoor replaced Ileana D’Cruz as the female lead because the latter couldn’t do the project for personal reasons. Rajat Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Surpiya Pathak, Amit Sial, and others played key roles. Tamannaah Bhatia, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Yo Yo Honey Singh will be seen in special songs. Produced by Panorama Studios and T-Series Films, the film has its music composed by Amit Trivedi.
