All’s not well for Prakash Raj these days. The actor, who contested in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, is embroiled in a court case over his Hindi film, Tadka, which is yet to release. The actor and director was sued by Essel Vision – a Zee group company, over the non-payment of Rs 5.88 crores.
Apparently, the actor and the production house signed an agreement with Essel Vision in 2016, and gave 60% stake of the film’s IP; however, Essel group approached the court citing breach of contract. Earlier this year, Prakash Raj is said to have told the court that he will settle the entire amount by July 15, but that didn’t happen. Now, he has reportedly given a cheque of Rs 2 crores to clear some part of the dues. The court has warned him that if this cheque bounces that it will be treated as aggravated contempt of court.
Essel Vision is believed to have agreed to extend the deadline for Prakash Raj to clear his dues. It remains to be seen how he handles the issue going forward. The film, Tadka, is the Hindi remake of Ulavacharu Biryani, and it also stars Taapsee, Shriya Saran, and Ali Fazal in lead roles.
