Mayasabha

Mahasabha, the much-talked-about Telugu political drama series, had its digital premiere on the Sony LIV platform on August 7. Starring Aadi Pinishetty and Chaitanya Rao Madadi in lead roles, the series is directed by Deva Katta of Prasthanam and Republic fame along with Kiran Jay Kumar, and it received decent reviews.

Mayasabha’s first season is a fictional take inspired by real-life political events in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh between 1974 and 1983. The future seasons will reportedly explore the landmark political events up to 2009.

Mayasabha’s two lead characters, played by Aadhi and Chaitanya Rao, draw inspiration from the two iconic political stalwarts of Telugu politics, Nara Chandrababu Naidu and YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Mayasabha showcases the unexplored depths of the close friendship between the late YSR and Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

While Rajamouli imagined the friendship of two historical freedom fighters, Alluri Seetharama Raju and Komuram Bheem, in RRR, Mayasabha explores the fictional narrative around two legendary political leaders. Audiences are drawing comparisons between Mayasabha and RRR, with some even calling Mayasabha the RRR of the OTT space.

Seasoned actors like Sai Kumar, Divya Dutta, and Nassar, and young actors Ravindra Vijay, Bhavana Vazhapandal, Tanya Ravichandran, Charitha Varma, and Shatru essayed prominent roles in the series.
