Dhanush’s latest directorial, NEEK (Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam), is finding it tough to attract moviegoers. Initially, the makers planned to release the film during the first week of February, but due to Vidaamuyarchi, the release was postponed to February 21. This is turning out to be a wrong move since Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon took a toll on NEEK’s business.
Though both are youthful entertainers, Dragon’s comedy dosage and Pradeep’s wonderful performance have captivated the audience, and the film is on its way to reaching Rs. 100 crores. NEEK, on the other hand, had a below-par first weekend, with the worldwide gross falling short of Rs. 10 crores.
NEEK crashed on weekdays, and there seem to be no signs of recovery. The film earned less than Rs. 1 crore gross on both Monday and Tuesday, which pretty much sums up the romantic drama’s box office struggle. Interestingly, NEEK received decent reviews, but due to Dhanush’s packed schedule, he couldn’t promote his film properly, which is one key reason for the disappointing performance.
NEEK stars Anika Surendran, Pavish, Priya Prakash Varrier, Matthew Thomas, Venkatesh Menon, Rabiya Khatoon, and Ramya Ranganathan in the lead roles. Dhanush’s production house, Wunderbar Films, bankrolled this flick. GV Prakash Kumar composed the tunes.
