The Drishyam franchise created by Jeethu Joseph is one of the finest crime thrillers in Indian cinema. Headlined by Mohanlal, the first part became a solid hit, and after that, it was remade in several languages, including Telugu and Hindi, spearheaded by Venkatesh and Ajay Devgn, respectively. The second installment was released directly on OTT due to COVID-19.
Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph have already started working on Drishyam 3, but the makers have yet to finalize the release window. In an interview with Pink Villa, the director said, “The makers of the Hindi and Telugu versions have asked whether we can release the film simultaneously. The issue is that Drishyam has a massive following, both in India and overseas.”
Jeethu Joseph added that the Hindi and Telugu producers are concerned if the Malayalam version releases first, as it could affect their box-office performance, since audiences would already know the story. The discussions are on with the Drishyam 3 producer (Malayalam version).
However, Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 makers feel that releasing all versions together could also affect their business. The team is in a dilemma to decide on the release date, and hence they are concentrating on the shooting at the moment.
