Kaantha is a period drama starring Dulquer Salmaan and Samuthirakani in crucial roles, with Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead. The film is directed by Selvamani Selvaraj. As the release date approaches, the makers have dropped the trailer today, and it is as impressive as the teaser.
The teaser already set the foundation. The story revolves around an ego-driven clash between a guru and his disciple, a director and an actor, played by Samuthirakani and Dulquer Salmaan, respectively.
The trailer opens right at the heart of the conflict: Modern Pictures’ new horror film Shaantha, with Ayya as director and “Nata Chakravarthi” TK Mahadeva as the lead, abruptly changes hands. The hero takes over the project as director for egoistic reasons involving his mentor, who is also his godfather in the industry.
Kumari (Bhagyashri Borse), the heroine of Shaantha, disapproves of this and continues to follow Ayya’s instructions. This leads to tension, and the involvement of a policeman (Rana Daggubati) further escalates the chaos.
What caused the rift? Why did the project shift from one director to another? Why did a loyal disciple turn against his godfather and seize control? And why did Shaantha transform into Kaantha? These questions form the core of the film.
The trailer is impressive, and the drama works effectively. The curiosity has been heightened. Above all, actors Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani, Bhagyashri Borse, Rana Daggubati, and Ravindra Vijay appear to have delivered strong performances. Jhanu Chanthar’s music is intriguing and sets the mood perfectly.
Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prashanth Potluri, and Jom Varghese have backed the film under the Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films banners. Kaantha is releasing in Telugu and Tamil on November 14, 2025.
