Independence Day week releases, Coolie and War 2, completed their first weekend and have now entered a crucial phase. While Rajinikanth’s Coolie posted terrific collections all across the board, NTR and Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 had an underwhelming first weekend with numbers dipping after the big holiday on August 15.
According to trade reports, today, both biggies witnessed about a 70% drop in collections for the noon shows in India. The trend looks alarming as the stakes involved are extremely high for these big-ticket entertainers. Lately, there has been a huge decline in footfalls due to exorbitant ticket prices and early OTT releases.
Previously, if a biggie received mixed reports, it used to have a good run for a couple of weeks, but that is no longer the case. After the weekend, it has become tough to draw audiences to the cinema halls. People have become choosy, and they are watching only those films that they think are worth the ticket price.
Whether or not Coolie and War 2 can manage to turn the tables in the coming days needs to be seen. Coolie is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, while Ayan Mukerji helmed War 2.
