Versatile actor Vijay Sethupathi recently scored a solid commercial hit with the rural family entertainer Thalaivan Thalaivii. Directed by Pandiraj, the movie starred Nithya Menen as the female lead. In its lifetime, Thalaivan Thalaivii earned over Rs. 50 crores gross at the worldwide box office.
The movie was released in Telugu under the title ‘Sir Madam.’ It recently arrived on Prime Video in multiple languages. While the theatrical response was good, the OTT reception tells a different story. Netizens opine that Thalaivan Thalaivii is an over-the-top, annoying, and overdramatic film filled with cringe elements throughout.
Some are even wondering how the movie achieved that level of success, as they felt the writing was poor. However, this isn’t the first time a hit film has drawn such negative reactions after its digital release. What’s more important is how well a movie captivates theatre-going audiences, and in this aspect, Thalaivan Thalaivii succeeded.
The rural drama was produced by Arjun Thyagarajan and Senthil Thyagarajan under the Sathya Jyothi Films banner. Yogi Babu, Roshini Haripriyan, and Deepa Shankar played key roles, while Santosh Narayanan composed the music.
