Can you believe it has been three years since the Tollywood box office saw a big hero’s release in the Summer season? Just like in 2023 and 2024, the Telugu film industry has once again squandered the golden opportunity that Summer offers. Initially, Hari Hara Veera Mallu was scheduled for a March 2025 release. Later, it was pushed to May, but in the end, the film missed the Summer window altogether.
Now, in a span of just 30 days, the box office is set to witness an intense clash between five big-ticket films. Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life (June 5), Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu (June 12), Dhanush and Nagarjuna’s Kubera (June 20), Vishnu Manchu’s Kannappa (June 27), and Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom (July 4) are releasing in a short gap.
What makes the situation worse is that these releases coincide with school reopenings and the onset of the rainy season, factors that significantly affect the footfalls. All these films feature a massive star cast, but they will be pulled out of theatres prematurely to make space for the next big release, no matter how good the content is.
Ideally, a minimum two-week gap between such high-budget projects is essential to allow them to maximize their box office performance. This overcrowding reflects a lack of coordination among production houses and distributors. Such poor planning not only affects individual films but also damages the overall business ecosystem. Let’s hope that better sense prevails going forward, avoiding such a box office mess.
