Ayan Mukerji criticized for War 2 & Brahmastra; will he still direct Dhoom 4?

The recent spy action thriller War 2, produced by YRF and starring NTR and Hrithik Roshan, is not performing up to expectations. After an underwhelming first weekend, the movie dropped big on its first Monday. While War was directed by Sidharth Anand, the sequel was helmed by Ayan Mukerji.

The director is being criticised for the way he handled a tent-pole film like War 2. Especially the second half received flak for its lack of pulse-pounding and thrilling moments. Ayan was also criticized in the same manner for Brahmastra, which ended up being a cost failure. The director is also given the opportunity to helm the fourth part of the Dhoom franchise.

Now the biggest question is whether YRF will still let Ayan direct Dhoom 4, which is heavy on action. Reportedly, Ranbir Kapoor will headline the project. Movie buffs are of the opinion that Ayan Mukerji is best suited for making simple slice-of-life films and that he shouldn’t try his hand at action films.

Will YRF take a risk and hand over the responsibility to Ayan Mukerji, or will they prefer to work with another director? That remains to be seen. At the moment, Ranbir is busy with Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War.
