Athadu Sequel

Released in 2005, Tollywood Superstar Mahesh Babu and star director Trivikram Srinivas’ action family entertainer, Athadu, is still hailed as a cult classic in the duo’s careers. Nearly two decades after its initial release, Athadu is gearing up for a grand re-release in Super 4K resolution and Dolby Atmos sound on August 9 as a Mahesh Babu birthday treat for fans.

In a recent media interaction, Athadu producer and veteran actor Murali Mohan was asked if there are any plans for a sequel to Athadu. “If a sequel is ever made, it will only be with Mahesh Babu garu and Trivikram garu,” said the senior actor-producer.

Athadu has been a special film even for Mahesh and Trivikram fans, and the idea of a sequel to this classic has surely left them all excited. However, given Mahesh and Trivikram’s busy schedules, at least for the next couple of years, the possibility of the sequel going on floors remains to be seen.

Murali Mohan went on to reveale that, contrary to speculations, Pawan Kalyan was never approached for Athadu. However, he did confirm that legendary actor Sobhan Babu had politely declined the grandfather’s role eventually played by Nasser, as he wanted to be remembered by his fans as a lead actor only.

Athadu also features star heroine Trisha, senior actor Nasser, and popular Bollywood star Sonu Sood in lead roles. Mani Sharma’s chartbuster soundtrack is one of the main highlights of the movie.
