AP, TG exhibitors to shutdown theaters from June 1; Big movies to get affected

The summer of 2025 will probably end up being one of the rare seasons without even a single top-tier star’s movie release in cinemas. Big-budget movies such as Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu, NTR’s War 2, Dhanush and Nagarjuna’s Kubera, and Rajinikanth’s Coolie are gearing up for release in cinemas starting from the first week of June.

However, in a major setback to the Telugu film industry, the film exhibitors from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have announced a closure of their single-screen theaters from the first week of June. Following a joint meeting at the Film Chamber on Sunday, nearly 65 AP and TG exhibitors have taken this joint decision.

The exhibitors have informed the Film Chamber of their decision to shut down theaters from June 1 if distributors and producers screen movies on a rental basis in their theaters. The Film Chamber will be informing the exhibitors’ decision to close their theaters to the Producers’ Council and Producers’ Guild. This unexpected strike, if it comes into effect as announced, will impact several top-star movies to the tune of over Rs 1000 crores.
