Anupama’s Janaki V V/s State of Kerala Hits Theaters, Skips Telugu

After a long legal battle with the CBFC, Anupama Parameswaran’s Malayalam film Janaki V V/s State of Kerala (JSK) finally hits theaters today, but surprisingly, not in Telugu.

The film faced delays after the CBFC objected to the use of the name ‘Janaki’, citing religious sentiments due to its association with Goddess Sita. The board demanded a title and character name change, which the makers refused, leading to legal action.

Eventually, the film was cleared with a U/A 13+ certificate, with no changes requested, a major win for the filmmakers and creative freedom.

Though the Telugu version was announced, the team has limited the release to Malayalam and Hindi for now, skipping Telugu without providing a reason. We may get it on another date or directly on OTT.

Directed by J. Phanindra Kumar and produced by Cosmos Entertainments, JSK features Suresh Gopi, Shruthi Ramachandran, Divya Pillai, and Madhav Suresh, with music by Ghibran and Gireesh Narayanan.
