Anupama Parameswaran made her film debut with the cult classic Premam. Despite being a Malayali, the actress became very popular in Telugu cinema, starring in many blockbusters like Tillu Square, A Aa, and Karthikeya 2. She has only been a part of a handful of films in Mollywood, and her last appearance was in Kurup in 2021. Anupama is now returning to Malayalam cinema with Suresh Gopi’s Janaki vs State of Kerala.
At the film’s audio launch event, Anupama opened up about the criticism she had faced over the years.” Many people dismissed me in Malayalam, saying I didn’t know how to act. I also faced a lot of targeted trolling. Irrespective of all of that, this film’s director (Pravin Narayanan) cast me as the lead character. This movie has a heart and it is Janaki, and thank you for entrusting me with her.”
The actress received strong support from her co-star Suresh Gopi, who drew parallels with stars like Simran, Nayanthara, and Asin. Suresh Gopi said those three were also initially overlooked but later rose to stardom. The actor-politician expressed confidence that Anupama would also become a huge star just like them. Suresh Gopi added that the very directors who once disregarded Anupama in Malayalam cinema would soon be chasing her for her dates.
