It is an open secret that Tollywood is currently going through a lull period because of no major releases. In the desperation to go PAN-India, every film is taking too long to hit the screens, leaving distributors and exhibitors to suffer immensely. The postponement of biggies is adding salt to the injuries.
In tough times like these, re-releases are providing some relief to theatre owners. Recently, Khaleja and Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari did pretty well in their re-run. This weekend, the much-acclaimed romantic drama Andala Rakshasi is filling the vacuum in Telugu states.
Yesterday, the love saga sold over 18K tickets on the Book My Show portal alone. In many centers, the film registered solid occupancies, and a very good number of shows went housefull, too. Most importantly, Andala Rakshasi doesn’t have a big star, yet people are flocking to the theatres. This goes on to show how special the movie is to the Telugu audience.
Andala Rakshasi marked Hanu Raghavapudi’s directorial debut. It starred Naveen Chandra, Lavanya Tripathi, and Rahul Ravindran in lead roles. Sai Korrapati and SS Rajamouli jointly produced this flick. One of the film’s standout aspects is Radhan’s soulful music, which continues to resonate with audiences and remains popular on music charts even today.
