In a heartbreaking incident, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (Flight AI171) crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad at around 1:39 PM IST today, June 12, 2025.
The London Gatwick-bound flight was carrying 242 people—230 passengers (including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, 7 Portuguese nationals, and 1 Canadian) and 12 crew members. Moments after takeoff, the aircraft crashed into a residential area in Meghaninagar, slamming into a doctors’ hostel and erupting into flames. Thick black smoke engulfed the area as emergency teams rushed to the scene. While 30 fatalities have been officially confirmed, fears loom that the death toll may rise to as many as 120.
The nation is in shock, and Tollywood celebrities have expressed their grief and solidarity in the wake of this devastating tragedy.
Actor Jr NTR posted on X: “Deeply saddened by the Ahmedabad Air India flight crash. Prayers and strength to everyone affected. My thoughts are with the passengers, crew members, and their families.”
Pawan Kalyan, actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, shared: “I am devastated by the tragic Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad. My heartfelt prayers are with all the passengers and crew onboard. While we await official updates, I offer my deepest sympathies to the families facing this unimaginable loss. May they find strength and support during these difficult times.”
Ram Charan also extended his condolences, writing: “Deeply saddened to know about the unfortunate plane crash in Ahmedabad. My prayers are with all the passengers, crew onboard, the affected, and their families.”
Several other celebrities including Varun Tej, Teja Sajja, Gopichand Malineni, Sharwanand, Adivi Sesh, and Thaman took to social media to express their sorrow and pay tribute to the victims.
Rescue operations are still underway, and authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage. Further updates are awaited.
