Tanu Weds Manu

Bollywood movies Tanu Weds Manu and its sequel Tanu Weds Manu Returns were sensational hits at the box office. Aanand L. Rai, who directed them, had already announced the trequel – Tanu Weds Manu 3, but it seems his plans have hit a major roadblock.

Reports claim that the movie was stalled because Eros International issued a legal notice stating that all rights for Tanu Weds Manu, including expanding it as a franchise, are under their control, and no one has the right to make any movie without their permission. It is clear that the legal notice was meant for Aanand L. Rai.

If the ongoing rumour is true, the issue may be connected to the director’s other film, Raanjhanaa. Recently, the Tamil version of the movie was re-released with a different, happy ending, which Aanand L. Rai criticised Eros International, while Dhanush came in support. Although people liked it, using AI to alter the climax reportedly upset the director a lot.

As a result, Aanand L. Rai may not be the director if Eros still wants to go ahead with the trequel. Meanwhile, Aanand has completed Tere Ishq Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon.

These developments have upset fans eagerly waiting for Tanu Weds Manu 3. We will have to see how things unfold in the days to come.

Vivek Agnihotri recently released the third and final part of his Files Trilogy, titled The Bengal Files. The movie is based on “Direct Action Day’ called by the All-India Muslim League demanding a separate homeland for Muslims. It led to large-scale violence between Hindus and Muslims. However, distributors and exhibitors in West Bengal denied screening the film.

The BJP attacked the ruling Trinamool Congress, claiming the screening wasn’t allowed deliberately, while the government argued there was no ban. Some opined that the movie portrays Hindu genocide in a distorted manner and called it propaganda. But all this discussion surrounding The Bengal Files didn’t help it a bit, as the film is struggling at the box office with no takers.

According to trade reports, the film collected only around Rs. 6.5 crores nett in its first weekend, which is just 25% of The Kashmir Files’ opening weekend numbers.

The movie started slowly and failed to register any big jumps over the weekend. A few movie buffs are commenting that filmmakers should stop making movies that create communal riots, and that the formula which worked once won’t create the same magic again, and may even bore the audience.

Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, Simrat Kaur, Anupam Kher, and others played the lead roles. Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi, and Vivek Agnihotri jointly produced this flick.
