Bollywood director Shimit Amin has faded away from the spotlight because he has been inactive and hasn’t directed any feature films in the last decade. For those who don’t know, he was the one who helmed Shah Rukh Khan’s superhit Chak De! India. The film set against the backdrop of hockey is regarded as one of the best sports dramas ever made in Indian cinema.

After Chak De! India, Shimit Amin directed the comedy drama Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. The film, which was released in 2012, featured Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. According to an exclusive report in Pink Villa, Shimit Amin is now eyeing a comeback with an aerial actioner which will be headlined by Kartik Aaryan.

The report mentioned, “Shimit Amin and Kartik Aaryan have been in talks for the last year, jamming on multiple subjects to explore a potential collaboration. That’s when Kartik introduced Shimit to the world of Captain India, and the filmmaker found it to be a fascinating story. Captain India will feature Kartik Aaryan as an Air Force Pilot and is set against the backdrop of a true story.”

Shimit Amin is said to have worked out a tight screenplay for Captain India, and he is planning to take the project on floors in the first half of 2026, according to the report. The filmmaker is also believed to have impressed Kartik with his narration, and the project is expected to be shot in India and Morocco.
