Sree Vishnu’s latest film, #Single, has hit the big screens with plenty of buzz. Read on to find out how it holds up in our review.

Story:

Vijay (Sree Vishnu) is a bank employee and he falls for Purva Nettem (Ketika Sharma) at first glance. He tries to meet her to make her fall in love. In the meantime, Harini (Ivana) follows Vijay as she loves him. This continues until Vijay comes to know about who is Harini, and Purva about Vijay. What happened later in Vijay’s life is the story need to be seen in the main movie.

Plus Points:

Sree Vishnu is once again back with his hilarious comedy timing and his funny takes using the trending dialogues and memes. Vennela Kishore joins him in delivering comedy. Both of them fill the screens with comedic scenes that evokes genuine laughs.

Ketika Sharma ditches glamourous angle in this movie and acts in a simple role and she does it well. The quite opposite is Ivana’s role, a mischievous girl who tries to woo Sree Vishnu. Their combination scenes work well.

The comedy scenes involving Sree Vishnu and Vennela Kishore brought a lot of laughs in both halves and they are sure to make one enjoy the film though it offers nothing major in terms of story.

VTV Ganesh delivers laughs whenever he appears on screen. The remaining artists are okayish in their roles.

Minus Points:

The comedy clicks really well but at the time, the background is also important, means a proper narrative. #Single lacks it and mostly relies on comedy scenes. Yes, they work really well, but could have been standout if there is a strong narrative that gives a birth to the jokes.

The first half starts off well and quickly goes down because of the slow pace in terms of content. The same happens with the second half.

Ketika Sharma and Ivana characters could have better developed and in the meantime, a proper structure to the narrative and the proceedings should be there to make it most enjoyable film. Unfortunately, the movie lacks it.

VTV Ganesh could have better used than the space given to him. Rajendra Prasad’s episode is just for minutes and the emotions don’t work much in the comedy flowing narrative.

The songs doesn’t have much impression as they can’t be remembered once the show is done.

Technical Aspects:

Director Caarthick Raju’s intention to fill the whole film with comedy and deliver it is fine but at the same time he made the story take a back seat. He could have worked on story and its screenplay.

Cinematography looks neat and so is the score. Editing by KL Praveen is okay but trimming a few scenes in second half could have helped the film better. Production values look rich enough.

Verdict:

On the whole, #Single is a decent comedy watch from start to finish, thanks the hilarious comedy by both Sree Vishnu and Vennela Kishore. They both made the movie enjoyable and in the meantime, Ketika and Ivana serve their purpose. On the flipside, not so engaging story, and some unnecessary scenes and proceedings make it a little bit dull at places. If you enjoy comedy films it’s a great watch this weekend.

Brahma Anandam is a Telugu comedy-drama starring the King of Comedy, Meme God Brahmanandam, and his son Raja Goutham in lead roles. The film hit the big screens today. Check out our review to learn how it fares.

Story:

Brahma (Raja Goutham) is a struggling theater artist, constantly chasing his big break. While his dreams remain just out of reach, financial struggles and an unstable love life with Tara (Priya Vadlamani) only add to his woes. Just when he lands an opportunity to stage his play at a prestigious event, he faces a major hurdle—arranging the required money. Meanwhile, his grandfather, Anand Ram Murthy (Brahmanandam), lives in an old-age home, disconnected from his family. Seeing Brahma’s desperation, he offers to help but insists on a plan. Anand, Brahma, and his friend Giri (Vennela Kishore) embark on a journey to the village of Burradupalem, where Anand’s real intentions slowly unfold. Why has he brought them there? What is he truly seeking? The film unravels these questions.

Plus Points:

Brahmanandam is the soul of the film, proving once again why he is a legend. Moving beyond his signature comedic roles, he delivers a performance filled with warmth and subtle emotions. His expressions and dialogue delivery make the character of Anand Ram Murthy truly memorable.

Raja Goutham steps up his game, showing glimpses of an actor who deserves more recognition. His sarcastic and realistic portrayal of Brahma resonates well with the younger audience, and director RVS Nikhil utilises his potential effectively.

Vennela Kishore, in his usual effortless style, provides comic relief and ensures that even weaker moments in the screenplay get a humorous lift. His presence adds much-needed energy to the narrative.

Priya Vadlamani, Divija Prabhakar, Sampath Raj, and Rajeev Kanakala fit their roles well, making solid contributions to the story.

Minus Points:

The film begins on a promising note, immersing the audience in Brahma’s struggles and setting up an intriguing premise. However, once the story shifts to the village, the momentum slows down. The screenplay falters, stretching out scenes that could have been more impactful with better pacing.

The heart of the film lies in its exploration of love beyond age—an attempt to break conventions and redefine companionship. However, inconsistent narration and a weak screenplay prevent this theme from achieving the emotional depth it deserves. The love story between the elderly characters holds the potential to be moving and thought-provoking, but its on-screen execution lacks the finesse needed to leave a lasting impact. While the director’s intent is clear, the storytelling fails to do full justice to this beautiful concept.

Additionally, the emotional bond between Brahma and Anand Ram Murthy, which should have been the backbone of the film, feels underdeveloped. A stronger emphasis on their evolving relationship could have added more weight to the narrative.

Some supporting characters remain underutilised, and certain key moments fail to leave a lasting impression due to uneven storytelling.

Technical Aspects:

Director-writer RVS Nikhil deserves credit for giving Brahmanandam a meaningful role, but the storytelling needed more refinement. A tighter screenplay and better execution could have turned this film into an emotional powerhouse.

The music, though decent, occasionally disrupts the flow of scenes, though the background score during the climax is commendable. The cinematography is neat, but the editing, especially in the second half, could have been sharper. Production values are solid.

Verdict:

On the whole, Brahma Anandam has a promising premise but falters in execution. While Brahmanandam delivers a refreshing performance and Raja Goutham impresses, the film struggles with a sluggish narrative and an underdeveloped emotional core. If you’re a fan of Brahmanandam and enjoy slow-paced dramas, you might try it, but keep your expectations in check. Otherwise, look out for better entertainment choices this weekend.

Movie Name: Srikakulam Sherlockholmes

Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes is the latest comedy-thriller released on Christmas 2024. Comedian Vennela Kishore takes on the title role in this film. Read on to find out how the film fared.

Story:

Om Prakash, nicknamed Sherlock Holmes (Vennela Kishore), a quirky detective from Srikakulam, is tasked with solving the murder of a young woman, Mary (Dokala Navya), in Vizag. With just seven days to crack the case, he identifies seven suspects, including Balakrishna (Ravi Teja Mahadasyam), Bhramaramba (Ananya Nagalla), Ramesh Patnaik (Prabhakar), and others. As he pieces together the evidence, the mystery begins to unravel. Who killed Mary, and how are these suspects connected to the crime? The answers form the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

Vennela Kishore takes on the lead role in this movie, delivering good comedic timing and effectively using the Srikakulam accent to connect with the audience. His mischievous behaviour is explained well in the second half, adding clarity to his character.

Ananya Nagalla does a commendable job in her role, portraying two distinct shades of her character convincingly. Some scenes might even frustrate viewers due to her character behaviour, which speaks volumes about her acting skills.

Raviteja performs adequately, while Prabhakar, Bhadram, Anish Kuruvilla, and others deliver within their character limits. The dialogues related to Srikakulam and the song highlighting the region are nice additions.

Minus Points:

Crime comedy thrillers generally require an engaging storyline with unexpected twists to keep the audience hooked. Unfortunately, this movie falls short, as the killer’s identity becomes predictable early on, especially for regular viewers of the genre.

The first half moves slowly, making it feel unengaging and directionless. While the second half picks up pace and provides some entertainment, the overall narrative lacks the grip needed for such a genre. Some of the comedy scenes are bland.

The storytelling feels ordinary, especially in the first hour, and the screenplay could have been tighter. The dubbing for characters like Anish Kuruvilla, Siya Gautham, and a supporting female character who shares a romantic bond with another woman feels mismatched, diminishing their impact and leaving their characters underdeveloped.

Technical Aspects:

Mohan makes an average debut as a director and writer. While the effort is evident, the movie lacks the depth and twists required for a crime comedy thriller.

The music by Sunil Kashyap and Gyaani is average, and the background score could have been more impactful. Mallikarjun Naragani’s cinematography is acceptable, and the production values are fine. However, the editing could have been much better, particularly in the first half.

Verdict:

On the whole, Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes is a crime comedy thriller that works in parts. Vennela Kishore and Ananya Nagalla deliver commendable performances, but the film struggles to maintain consistent engagement. A predictable storyline, a slow-paced first half, and underdeveloped characters weigh it down. Fans of the crime thriller genre might find it worth a try, but it’s best to keep the expectations low.
