Telusu Kada is one of the most awaited films in recent times as it has Siddhu Jonnalagadda, Raashii Khanna, and Srinidhi Shetty in lead roles. The film has hit the screens today, and let’s see how it is.

Story :

Varun (Siddhu Jonnalagadda) is a chef who wants to settle down in life. He meets Anjali (Raashii Khanna) through a matrimonial site and marries her. The twist in the tale arises when Anjali realises she cannot give birth and finds a doctor named Raaga (Srinidhi Shetty) to help her with surrogacy. How will Varun react to Anjali’s decision, and how will all this work out is the basic story of the film.

Plus Points :

Telusu Kada is not your regular love story as shown in the promos. Neeraja Kona directs this film and has put out a point that is quite bold in its approach, dealing with the sensitive aspect of surrogacy. She does not go into the details of surrogacy but sets the point of a man who is stuck between two women.

The basic setting is quite modern and is aimed at the urban audience. There is no denying the fact that the content is quite bold and has some brownie points. The manner in which emotions are shown through different characters is the best part of the film.

The hero’s character and why he behaves in such a way is shown neatly in the end. Also, the way the heroine’s character and how Srinidhi Shetty behaves is also given justice, though it looks a bit confusing from the outside. By the end of the film, you get an idea of what the whole emotional angle is about.

Siddhu Jonnalagadda finally comes out of his DJ Tillu image and acts superbly in the film. The way he has owned the character of Varun is top-notch. While watching the film, one gets a feeling that he is a bit of a negative guy, but that is who he is, with utmost clarity and drive in the film.

Raashii Khanna gets a solid role and is superb as Anjali. After a long gap, she gets a strong character and excels in it. Srinidhi Shetty is also decent in her role but does not get to do much.

Viva Harsha plays a key role in the film and is solid in his character. He is the one who acts as the audience’s point of view, and the actual reactions are shown through his character.

The first half of the film is top-notch, with the surrogacy angle being brought in with a mature approach. The manner in which the hero is stuck between his wife and his ex-girlfriend is handled in a solid manner.

Minus Points :

There is no denying the fact that Telusu Kada is not for everyone and has been made for a niche audience. Neeraja Kona makes her debut and designs a character for Siddhu Jonnalagadda, which is a departure from the roles he has done in recent times.

One can easily understand that Telusu Kada is almost a remake of the Hindi film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, featuring Salman Khan, Preity Zinta, and Rani Mukherjee. The only difference here is that Srinidhi Shetty’s character has been given a new dimension and made the hero’s ex-girlfriend, while the Hindi film had Rani Mukherjee’s character as an outsider. Barring this, the rest of the story is the same.

The second half of the film is a bit confusing for the audience. One cannot grasp what is going on in the film, as the hero starts behaving in a very weird manner. But the manner in which the story is ended through Annapoorna’s justification, and the way the hero explains things with clarity, makes sense.

Still, there are a few scenes that should have been narrated in a clearer manner, especially Siddhu Jonnalagadda’s character. There will surely be a lot of people who will not understand whether he is a negative guy or a good guy. From the outside, he is very clear in his approach, but the manner in which things are narrated is a bit confusing.

The masses will surely get confused with this film, and it is very hard to accept such bold stories which have layered emotions. So, one has to go with an open mind to enjoy Telusu Kada.

Technical Aspects :

Thaman composed the music, and all the songs are superb. The BGM he has composed is also very good. The production values of the film are also top-notch, as the character settings and the overall approach are very posh.

Credit should go to the cameraman for showcasing just three or four locations in a very different way. The manner in which the production design has handled the entire look of the film is top-notch.

As Neeraja Kona is herself a costume designer, she has given superb costumes to all her cast, and nothing looks loud.

Coming to her direction, she has done a decent job for her first film. The manner in which Neeraja has showcased all three characters and does not take sides is the best part of the film. Neeraja’s writing is very strong and has depth in the characters, but only in the second half.

Especially the manner in which Srinidhi Shetty’s character is handled, the way she expresses things and how she wants to get back to the hero, is showcased in a very confusing manner. Had her character also been designed more clearly and with a lot of impact, things would have made more sense. The lyrics are good, and the choreography is also amazing.

Verdict :

On the whole, Telusu Kada is a bold and modern take on relationships. The concept is really novel, and the first half is amazing. The songs and solid performances by Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Raashii Khanna are amazing. Despite a few hiccups in the second half, the film will be liked by those who enjoy urban romantic dramas.
