Sikandar opening day collection

Bollywood Megastar Salman Khan’s much-anticipated film Sikandar was released as an Eid special on Sunday. Unfortunately, despite the excitement, the action-packed drama directed by A.R. Murugadoss has been met with a wave of criticism from both critics and audiences.

The film, which earned approximately Rs. 30 crore nett on its opening day, saw a slight increase on its second day, coinciding with the Eid festival, bringing in Rs. 33.36 crore nett – an 11% rise from day 1. However, this figure still falls short of what one might expect from a star of Salman Khan’s stature.

While the movie showed a solid second day at the box office in some regions, it underperformed in others. Tuesday will be a crucial day, as the true test of the film’s staying power begins.

Rashmika Mandanna stars opposite Salman Khan, with Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, and Prateik Babbar rounding out the cast. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film features music by Pritam and a score by Santhosh Narayanan. Stay tuned for more updates on Sikandar and its box office performance.

Sikandar, the latest Bollywood action drama starring Salman Khan and directed by AR Murugadoss, hits the big screens today. Here’s our take on the film. Read on.

Story:

Sikandar Rajkot, also known as Sanjay and Rajasaab (Salman Khan), is deeply respected by the people of Rajkot. One day, he gets into a conflict with Minister Pradhan’s (Sathyaraj) son, Arjun (Prateik Babbar), during a flight. Angered by this, the minister seeks revenge. At the same time, Saisri Rajkot (Rashmika Mandanna) dies in an accident, and her organs are donated to three people in Mumbai. When Sikandar learns about them, he decides to meet and care for them. However, Minister Pradhan threatens to harm those who received Saisri’s organs. How will Sikandar protect them and stand up to the minister? That’s what unfolds on the big screen.

Plus Points:

Salman Khan has a few decent moments, and some of his dialogues are okay. A couple of his action sequences might excite his fans.

Rashmika Mandanna plays his on-screen wife, but her role is minimal and gives her little scope to perform.

Kajal Aggarwal appears briefly in a cameo, doing what is required, though her presence adds nothing significant to the story.

Minus Points:

The story is highly predictable and follows a routine formula. The climax is obvious even before the interval, making A.R. Murugadoss’s writing feel uninspired.

None of the characters have depth, and their performances feel mechanical, as if they are simply delivering lines without any absolute conviction. From Salman Khan to Anjini Dhawan (played Nisha), every performance comes across as artificial, making it difficult to connect with any of them. Also, the combination scenes between the lead pair are not impressive, and the same goes for the songs.

Sathyaraj’s portrayal of the villain feels outdated, reminiscent of exaggerated antagonists from the 80s. His character is constantly filled with rage, trying to harm those the protagonist protects, but his actions often come across as unintentionally funny. It’s surprising that he accepted such a weakly written role, as it does little justice to his capabilities.

The screenplay is dull and filled with disconnected scenes that disrupt the flow. For instance, an irrelevant song suddenly appears at the beginning, adding nothing to the narrative. Several such moments make the film feel scattered and disjointed.

The pre-climax and climax are overly dramatic and have illogical sequences that further weaken the film’s impact.

Technical Aspects:

A.R. Murugadoss, once known for delivering blockbusters, offers an outdated and uninspiring narrative. His direction lacks the energy needed to keep the audience engaged.

The cinematography is passable, and the music is average at best. Editing isn’t a major issue, but the film as a whole lacks cohesion. While the production values are decent, they cannot compensate for the weak execution.

Verdict:

On the whole, Sikandar is a poorly written and executed action drama. It’s unclear what convinced Salman Khan to take on this project. Though he has a few okay moments, his performance lacks depth, especially in emotional scenes. Rashmika and Kajal have little to do, and Sathyaraj is wholly wasted. With a weak screenplay and an outdated storyline, this film is easily skippable.

The suspense surrounding the release date of Salman Khan’s Sikandar has been finally lifted. This mass entertainer, directed by AR Murugadoss, is set to hit the silver screens on Sunday, March 30. After Tiger 3, one more film of Salman opted for a Sunday release. Generally, during pre-Diwali and pre-Eid, the revenues will be somewhat low, which is why Salman sacrificed the traditional Friday release in both cases.

Collections usually see a spike in the North market after Diwali and Eid. However, this Sunday strategy didn’t work for Tiger 3, as the spy action thriller failed to maintain a stronghold after the holiday period. Also, Tiger 3 fell short of Rs. 300 crores nett by missing out on the Friday release. The worrisome factor for Sikandar is that it has less hype than Tiger 3.

Now, everything depends on the theatrical trailer, which is expected to be released in three to four days. If the trailer clicks, the film will take a good opening. It’s been a long time since Salman Khan showed his box-office domination, and we need to see if the Bollywood Megastar can make a strong comeback this time. Rashmika Mandanna plays the female lead. Sathyaraj plays the antagonist.
