Tourist Family is the recently released Tamil family entertainer that received a warm welcome in theaters. It is now streaming on Jio Hotstar, also available in Telugu audio. So, is it worth your time? Let’s dive into our review.

Story:

With inflation worsening in Sri Lanka, Dharmadas (Sasikumar), his wife Vasanthi (Simran), and their two children, Nithushan (Mithun Jai Sankar) and Mulli (Kamalesh Jagan), illegally cross into Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu. They’re helped by a relative, Prakash (Yogi Babu), and find a home in Kesava Nagar Colony, and that too as tenants of a local inspector, Raghavan (Bagavathi Perumal). Just as things begin to settle, a bomb blast rattles the city, and the blame falls on Sri Lankans. What follows is a web of suspicion, survival, and self-worth. Who really is this family? Will the police come after them? And how do the people around them respond? The answers unfold in this emotionally driven narrative.

Plus Points:

The biggest strength of Tourist Family is its simplicity. In a space often filled with violence, profanity, or over-dramatisation, this clean, honest, and family-friendly film feels refreshing. It’s a film you can watch with anyone, no hesitation, no discomfort.

Sasikumar delivers a grounded performance as Dharmadas. His restrained expressions, quiet strength, and believable reactions pull you into his world. Simran plays Vasanthi with grace and dignity, and it’s definitely not a “dabba” role. She holds her space well as a mother navigating uncertainty.

Among the kids, Kamalesh Jagan as Mulli absolutely shines. His presence feels like a gentle rain on parched earth. He’s clever, funny, and naturally charming, bringing life to every scene he’s in.

Yogi Babu provides well-timed laughs without breaking the tone. M S Bhaskar, as always, brings quiet depth, showing that seriousness doesn’t have to come with arrogance. The supporting cast blends seamlessly, adding authenticity to the world.

Emotionally, the film hits the right notes. Whether it’s the death of an old lady, a teary father-son moment, or a speech from an ignored resident of the colony, these scenes are heartfelt and relatable, especially for middle-class viewers who’ve lived through similar realities.

Minus Points:

That said, the story is very simple. If you’re looking for high-stakes drama or unexpected twists, this might feel too straightforward.

Nithushan, played by Mithun Jai Sankar, doesn’t leave as much of a mark as Mulli. His character arc lacks weight, and the hinted romantic track with Yogalakshmi’s character Kural is left underdeveloped. If that angle had been explored, it could’ve connected better with younger viewers.

Simran’s role, while respectable, could’ve been fleshed out more to leave a stronger emotional impact.

Technical Aspects:

Debutant director Abishan Jeevinth handles the story with surprising maturity. His emotional writing is the standout, taking a modest plot and shaping it with feeling and care.

Cinematographer Aravind Viswanathan captures the atmosphere of the colony well, giving it a grounded, lived-in feel. Sean Roldan’s music is a major highlight, and the score enhances every emotional turn without being overbearing.

Editor Barath Vikraman keeps the film crisp at just around two hours, never letting it feel stretched. The production values are simple but solid, helping the film stay rooted in reality. The dubbing work is neat, and the voices suit the characters well, making it easy for Telugu audiences to connect without feeling like a dubbed film.

Verdict:

On the whole, Tourist Family is a heartfelt slice-of-life drama that makes its mark quietly but surely. With a simple premise, well-placed emotions, and sincere performances, it’s a film that reminds us of the beauty in everyday stories. Sasikumar’s subtlety, Simran’s grace, and the film’s emotional fabric come together to offer a wholesome watch. Sure, it has its small drawbacks, but they hardly take away from the overall experience. Watch it with your loved ones. You’ll walk away with a smile, and maybe a lump in your throat too.

Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins is a new Hindi-language heist thriller now streaming on Netflix. Starring Saif Ali Khan, the film is also available in Telugu. Here’s our review – read on to find out what we think.

Story:

Rehan Roy (Saif Ali Khan), a world-renowned thief, lives in hiding in the streets of Istanbul, still haunted by his father’s abandonment. His quiet life is interrupted when his younger brother tracks him down with shocking news – Rajan Aulakh (Jaideep Ahlawat), a powerful figure with deep underworld ties, has laundered a massive amount of black money in their father’s struggling clinic. Now Rajan demands payback: Rehan must steal the “Red Sun,” a priceless diamond belonging to Africa’s Prince Gamunu (Peter Muxka Manuel), showcased under heavy security at a prestigious museum in India. In exchange, Rajan promises to protect their father’s honour and life. Reluctantly stepping back into a dangerous game, Rehan faces a near-impossible heist, where every move could cost him dearly. Will he succeed against the odds? The answers lie within the heart of the story.

Plus Points:

Saif Ali Khan is okay as a thief in this heist thriller and carries his part with ease. Nikita Dutta looks stunning whenever she appears, even though her role offers little to the story.

Some heist-related scenes, though predictable, are passably engaging. A few of the cast members perform average within their limited scope.

Minus Points:

The film lacks all the key ingredients of a gripping heist thriller -sharp planning, real tension, clever execution, and surprises. The outdated story makes every twist predictable, removing any real excitement.

There’s no emotional connection. Rehan’s transformation into a master thief is neither explored nor convincing. Nikita Dutta’s character feels ornamental, adding nothing meaningful to the plot.

Jaideep Ahlawat’s villain lacks menace, coming across more like a local rowdy than a feared criminal. The conversations between the hero and villain are dull, failing to create any tension.

Dialogues are routine and unimaginative, and the screenplay is riddled with loopholes that the film expects the audience to overlook.

Technical Aspects:

Directors Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal fail to bring any real energy or suspense to the narrative. Even a simple plot like this could have worked with better execution. Jishnu Bhattacharjee’s cinematography, Aarif Sheikh’s editing, and Shezan Shaikh’s background score fail to lift the film. Production values are below average. The Telugu dubbing is just about okay.

Verdict:

On the whole, Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins is a disappointing and poorly executed heist thriller. Apart from Saif Ali Khan’s average performance, nothing stands out. Weak storytelling, flat execution, technical shortcomings, and a total lack of suspense and thrills make this film a forgettable experience. Whether you’re a fan of the heist genre or not, skipping this film would be a smart choice.

Perusu Telugu Movie Review

Movie Name : Perusu

Streaming Date : April 11, 2025
123telugu.com Rating : 2.75/5
Starring : Vaibhav, Sunil Reddy, Niharika NM, Chandini Tamilarasan, Bala Saravanan
Director : Ilango Ram
Producers : Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, Harman Baweja, Hiranya Perera
Music Director : Arun Raj
Cinematographer : Sathya Thilakam
Editor : Sooriya Kumaraguru

Vaibhav and Sunil Reddy’s adult comedy Perusu recently made its debut on Netflix. Originally in Tamil, the film is also available in Telugu and several other languages. Read on to find out how the movie fares.

Story:

Paramanandam, a respected figure in his village, dies suddenly under mysterious circumstances. His elder son, Swamy (Sunil Reddy), notices something unusual about the death. As time passes, the rest of the family – including their wives, mother, and aunt – gradually uncover the strange truth. Yet, instead of revealing it, they choose to keep it hidden. What really happened to Paramanandam? What was the strange thing they discovered? And why is the family so desperate to protect this secret? The movie slowly unravels the details.

Plus Points:

The first thing worth highlighting is the spot-on casting. Real-life brothers Vaibhav and Sunil Reddy play onscreen siblings, and their natural chemistry adds authenticity and depth to the film.

Vaibhav is convincing as the carefree, boozing younger son, while Sunil Reddy shines in the role of the elder son who is deeply concerned about his reputation. Both deliver solid performances that ground the film.

Supporting actors like Niharika NM, Chandini Tamilarasan, Bala Saravanan, Munishkanth, and Redin Kingsley bring in good laughs through their expressions and dialogue delivery. Their commitment to this kind of offbeat story deserves credit.

Being an adult comedy, Perusu leans heavily on situational humour – and it works. What’s impressive is how no one laughs onscreen, yet the absurdity of their situations makes the audience laugh. That subtle, awkward style of comedy hits the mark.

The film also captures the nosy behaviour of neighbors and the family’s chaotic attempts to hide the truth about the father’s death in a way that feels very real and relatable.

Minus Points:

While Perusu succeeds in its genre, it does come with inherent limitations. As a black comedy, it’s not for everyone. The tone may not resonate with viewers who prefer more traditional humour.

The director clearly understands the niche appeal of the story, but the pacing suffers. The plot is thin, and stretching it to nearly two hours makes certain portions feel dragged out.

Characters like Redin Kingsley, VTV Ganesh, and Bala Saravanan could have been used better. With stronger scenes or more improvisation, they could’ve added more to the comedy.

Also, since this is very much an adult-themed film, it’s not family-friendly, and younger or conservative viewers might find it off-putting.

Technical Aspects:

Writer-director Ilango Ram delivers a bold attempt with a unique tone, but the screenplay could have been tighter. Sharper writing and more impactful dark comedy moments would have added punch.

Sathya Thilakam’s cinematography is clean and consistent, while Arun Raj’s music is okay, though a few scenes could have used a stronger score. Editing by Sooriya Kumaraguru feels a bit loose – trimming the runtime could have improved the overall experience. Production values are decent, and the Telugu dubbing is serviceable.

Verdict:

On the whole, Perusu is a quirky adult comedy that works best for fans of dark, situational humor. The cast, especially Vaibhav and Sunil Reddy, do a fine job, and the film has its moments. However, its niche theme, slow pace, and limited appeal make it more suited to a specific audience. It’s best watched alone – definitely not one for the whole family. If you enjoy films that blend awkward situations with black comedy, Perusu might just hit the spot. Otherwise, go in with tempered expectations.
