One of Hollywood’s most iconic horror franchises, Final Destination, makes a chilling comeback after 14 long years. With expectations running high, Final Destination Bloodlines arrives not just with nostalgia, but also with a twist — Indian audiences got to witness it a day before its global release. The question is, does the film bring back the thrill or fall into repetition?

Story:

Stefani Reyes (Kaitlyn Santa Juana) is tormented by recurring nightmares of her grandmother, Iris Campbell (Gabrielle Rose), and her lover dying in a horrifying accident during the opening of the Sky View Restaurant Tower. Curious and seeking answers, Stefani returns home and tries to learn more about her grandmother, who had left the family long ago. With the help of her aunt, she finally finds Iris’s location. Upon visiting, Stefani is told a disturbing truth — Death is following their bloodline. As Stefani tries to make sense of the curse and warn her loved ones, no one believes her. But soon, fate begins to unfold its deadly plan. Can the family escape? Is anyone safe when Death itself is the hunter? The movie has the answers.

Plus Points:

While the concept of cheating death isn’t new, the franchise’s strength lies in how each death unfolds, and this film confidently maintains that suspense. The kills are creative and timed well, keeping viewers guessing until the final blow.

Kaitlyn Santa Juana brings emotional urgency to her role, while Richard Harmon’s Erik Campbell adds a streak of morbid humour that cuts through the tension just right.

Thanks to clever writing and direction, the lead-up to each death is suspenseful and tightly executed. Some sequences stand out for their build-up and surprise, particularly in the hospital and at the Sky View ceremony scene.

A crisp runtime helps the film avoid unnecessary dragging, at least in the first half.

Minus Points:

Despite the fresh execution, the plot remains predictable, especially for fans familiar with the franchise’s formula. The second half loses steam, with a few sluggish scenes affecting the otherwise tight momentum.

The film is not for the squeamish — graphic deaths and bloody visuals dominate the screen, making it unsuitable for families or younger viewers.

Most supporting characters lack depth. A few personal arcs or backstories could have added emotional weight and made the stakes feel more real.

Technical Aspects:

Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein understand the tone the series demands and handle the tension and timing well. Christian Sebaldt’s cinematography shines, especially in the death sequences. Editing is sharp in places, but could have been tighter in the latter half. Tim Wynn’s music supports the atmosphere but doesn’t leave a strong mark. Production values are solid for a mid-scale horror film.

Verdict:

On the whole, Final Destination Bloodlines delivers exactly what fans expect — a tense, blood-soaked thriller packed with creative death scenes and suspense that holds your attention. While the story feels familiar and the pacing slows in the second half, the film still entertains with its signature thrills. Character development is limited, and the graphic violence won’t be for everyone, but fans of the franchise and horror lovers will find plenty to enjoy. It’s a solid, satisfying addition to the series that’s worth a watch.
