Superstar Rajinikanth is back, and how! His latest film, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, hit theaters across the globe yesterday, with Akkineni Nagarjuna playing the villain.

While reviews are mixed, fans have flocked to theaters, and the numbers are nothing short of spectacular. The movie has set a new benchmark as one of the biggest opening-day Kollywood releases ever.

Across India, around 14,000 shows were screened, raking in close to Rs. 68 crore. Tamil shows led the way with 8,000 screenings and collections around Rs. 44 crore.

Here’s how other languages fared:

Telugu: ~3,000 shows – ~Rs. 17.50 crore

Hindi: ~3,100 shows – ~Rs. 5.04 crore

Kannada: ~100 shows – ~Rs. 0.55 crore

Globally, Coolie collected approximately Rs. 155 crore, surpassing the previous record held by Vijay’s Leo (Rs. 148.5 crore).

Even 50 years into his legendary career, Rajinikanth proves why he’s the undisputed box office king. And with Day 2 and the weekend still ahead, these numbers are expected to climb even higher.

Just a few hours left for the global release of Coolie, the most-awaited Superstar Rajinikanth’s movie. With Lokesh Kanagaraj at the helm, another interesting factor adds to the hype and mind-blowing advance sales.

Asian Cinemas bagged the Telugu theatrical rights for around Rs. 44 crore. The ticket sales are extraordinary in AP and TS as well. With the sensational hype surrounding the movie, it is predicted that the film would make Rs. 15 crore share in Telugu states alone on the opening day.

It is estimated that Coolie would rake in a worldwide gross of Rs. 150–175 crore based on the pre-sale collections and the advance hype it has.

If Coolie pulls off these numbers, especially with War 2 as tough competition, it would be a huge achievement. Let’s see how Rajinikanth’s action drama fares at the box office. Keep an eye out for all the latest collection updates from this big-ticket release.
