After the success of Joe, Rio Raj and Malavika Manoj reunite for Aan Paavam Pollathathu. The romantic comedy opened in theaters on October 31, 2025, and has now arrived on Jio Hotstar, with a Telugu version available as well. Here is our take on the film.
Story:
Shiva (Rio Raj), an IT employee, marries Shakthi (Malavika Manoj), a girl who wants to live life on her own terms. The young couple stay happy for more than a year until a small issue slowly grows into a serious conflict and eventually pushes them toward the court for a divorce. What triggers the issue, whether their parents know about it, and how the couple work their way through the situation form the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
The strongest point of the film is its lead pair. Rio Raj and Malavika Manoj share an easy, natural chemistry, and the way they bring out the couple’s warmth and conflict feels believable. Their performances carry the first half well, and the everyday moments between them are portrayed with good clarity.
RJ Vigneshkanth and Sheela Rajkumar step into the story in the second half and leave an impact despite their shorter screen time. Vigneshkanth’s performance in the climax, backed by clear and meaningful dialogue delivery, brings a sense of completion to the narrative.
The first half maintains a breezy tone and stays engaging without unnecessary drama. The director aims to create a film that appeals to couples and younger viewers, and several scenes naturally connect with that audience.
Minus Points:
The story follows a predictable track, and the familiarity becomes noticeable as the film progresses. Although the narration remains tidy, the early portions of the second half slow down and feel slightly prolonged.
The film is enjoyable but could have benefited from stronger emotional depth. The depiction of modern relationships and married life touches on relevant points but does not dive deeper into the nuances. A more layered and accurate exploration would have enhanced the impact.
Supporting characters, especially the parents, do not receive enough scope to influence the story meaningfully.
Technical Aspects:
For a debut director, Kalaiarasan Thangavel puts together an engaging film with only a few dull moments. A sharper hold on the second half would have improved the flow, but the overall film remains watchable and pleasant.
Madhesh Manickam’s cinematography, Varun KG’s editing, and Siddhu Kumar’s music suit the film’s tone and contribute well to its lighthearted nature. The production values are neat. The Telugu dubbing is acceptable but uneven for a few characters.
Verdict:
On the whole, Aan Paavam Pollathathu is an enjoyable romantic comedy-drama powered by the strong performances of Rio Raj and Malavika Manoj. The humour works, the pacing stays consistent, and the story is relatable for many young couples today. Although the predictable plot and limited emotional range prevent it from becoming more impactful, it remains a pleasant and comfortable family watch. If you are looking for a film to enjoy at home with your family, this one makes for a good pick.
