A year ago, Hanu-Man director Prasanth Varma announced a female-superhero film titled Mahakali, a part of his growing PVCU (Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe). Puja Aparna Kolluru was revealed as the director back then.
Now, the makers have dropped the title character poster, along with the big reveal of the actress playing the lead role. It’s Bhoomi Shetty, and her fierce, commanding look as Maha has set the tone for what’s coming. She is a Kannada actress and played Satya Dev’s wife in Kingdom.
Akshaye Khanna, who recently grabbed attention with his performance in Chhaava, is onboard to play Shukracharya.
Set in the backdrop of West Bengal, the film is written by Prasanth Varma and produced by RK Dug and Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under the RKD Studios banner. Music is composed by Smaran Sai. The film has already completed over 50% of its shoot and is presently being filmed on a grand set specially constructed in Hyderabad.
Interestingly, the announcement poster leaves out the previously confirmed details about an IMAX 3D release and multi-language versions. We’ll have to wait for the team to clarify soon.
