Dilruba, a romantic action drama headlined by Kiran Abbavaram, is coming to theatres on March 14, 2025, as a Holi special. The works of his last few films happened till the last minute, leaving very little time for Kiran to promote. However, Kiran Abbavaram avoided this mistake for Dilruba by starting media interviews well in advance.
In one of the interviews, Kiran Abbavaram was asked to reveal his recent favorite films. Kiran answered, “Sathyam Sundaram (Meiyazhagan), Pushpa 2, and Guntur Kaaram.” Karthi’s Sathyam Sundaram is a modern-day classic, and many view Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 as a solid commercial entertainer. Hence, the first two choices aren’t surprising, but Kiran’s pick of Guntur Kaaram as his favorite over other hit films is indeed an interesting choice.”
During its release, Guntur Kaaram received significant criticism, not only from reviewers but also from Mahesh Babu fans. Fans slammed the film, stating that the plot and screenplay are nowhere close to the quality of Trivikram’s previous films, Aravinda Sametha and Ala Vaikunthapurramulo. Despite mixed reviews, Guntur Kaaram was an above-average grosser at the box office, thanks to Superstar’s mighty stardom and Sankranthi festival season.
Though the film didn’t meet expectations, Mahesh’s portrayal of ‘Ramana’ was highly entertaining and relatable, with elements of sarcasm, graceful dance moves, and hidden emotional turmoil. After a long time, Mahesh Babu looked lively and super energetic on screen in Guntur Kaaram.
Though Trivikram couldn’t do complete justice to the script, he managed to bring back the vintage Mahesh. This might be the reason why Kiran Abbavaram chose Guntur Kaaram over other successful films. Kiran’s answer is sure to spark discussions on social media once again about this Trivikram’s directorial.
