Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj and headlined by Suriya, didn’t reach the massive expectations it had. The film ultimately ended up as a below-average performer at the box office. The director received flak for the way he presented the second half and for attempting to say too many aspects. The movie starred Pooja Hegde as the female lead.
Retro is now streaming on Netflix. In an interview with Galatta Plus, Karthik Subbaraj revealed that he is planning to release the film’s extended version on OTT. “I am holding talks with the digital platform. I told the representatives that I would give them a limited series version with extended scenes after 3-4 months of OTT premiere,” stated the director.
Karthik Subbaraj added, “The extended version is not just about deleted scenes. The emotions will be deeper, and the action scenes will have more detailing. Netflix is not actually agreeing to it. I am trying my best to do that because the film has many exciting episodes about laughter, spiritual, and cult angles, each lasting about 40 minutes. For example, the laughter angle episode showcases Jayaram sir’s psychology. I will try to make that content accessible to the audience somehow.”
