Homebound

Homebound, produced by Karan Johar, caught the attention of many when it was announced as India’s official entry for the 98th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film. The movie helmed by Neeraj Ghaywan stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles. Despite being critically acclaimed, Homebound couldn’t make noise at the ticket windows.

The latest update reveals that the film is coming to Netflix tomorrow (November 21). The OTT platform has officially dropped the announcement regarding the streaming date. Karan Johar expressed disappointment since the movie didn’t fare well in theatres and stated that he might not make a movie like Homebound once again.

Karan Johar received immense backlash from the public, who opined that the film wasn’t marketed and released properly. The movie premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes 2025, where it received a nine-minute standing ovation. It ended the title of second runner-up for the International People’s Choice Award and received another standing ovation at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025.

Homebound depicts caste and religious biases present in our country and how two friends fight against them while trying to build their lives. Given its critical acclaim, the movie is expected to gain huge traction on Netflix.
