Following Bollywood star heroine Deepika Padukone’s controversial exit from Kalki 2898 AD, all eyes were on the actress who will replace her in the role of Suumati (Sum-80) in the film’s sequel. Until recently, Sai Pallavi’s name did several rounds as the possible replacement.
However, the latest buzz in Bollywood circles reveals that National Award-winning Bollywood star heroine Alia Bhatt is the front-runner to replace Deepika in Kalki 2. Incidentally, Alia and Kalki 2 director Nag Ashwin have been in talks for a different project, but it looks like the director has decided to cast Alia in Kalki 2 instead. However, an official announcement is awaited to add strength to the latest speculations.
Kalki 2898 AD is a mythological sci-fi drama set in a distant future. The story begins with the Kurukshetra war, where Lord Krishna commands Ashwatthama to protect Vishnu’s last avatar, Kalki. A pregnant Deepika carries Kalki, an unborn child who is believed to change the future of humanity. Kalki also features Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan in lead roles. The film’s sequel is expected to go on floors in 2026.
