Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par was released in cinemas worldwide yesterday (June 20). The film, a spiritual sequel to Aamir’s iconic 2007 movie, Taare Zameen Par, is an official remake of the acclaimed Spanish sports drama, Champions.
Sitaare Zameen Par surpassed everyone’s expectations and collected a solid Rs 11.78 crore at the domestic box office on its opening day. The collection includes SZP’s all-India theatrical revenue. Aamir’s aggressive pre-release promotions have now helped the film post such decent numbers despite featuring a not-so-audience-friendly storyline.
Sitaare Zameen Par narrates the story of a basketball coach, played by Aamir Khan, coaching a team of young players dealing with intellectual difficulties and making them emerge triumphant in a national-level basketball championship. Genelia Deshmukh played the leading lady opposite Aamir in this RS Prasanna directorial.
