Director Pandiraj scored a solid hit with his recent outing Thalaivan Thalaivii, which featured Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen in the lead roles. The film is performing exceptionally well in Tamil Nadu, grossing around Rs. 30 crores so far. The director is currently engaged in post-release promotions, and during an interview with Cineulagam, he sparked massive outrage among Suriya fans.
Pandiraj stated, “The films that came after Etharkkum Thunindhavan (ET) didn’t surpass its collection. Anyone in the trade will confirm that. It’s the truth. We can’t go around spreading false narratives. It is true that the two films (Kanguva and Retro) that came after ET (Evariki Thalavanchadu in Telugu) didn’t come close to its collection.”
The director also emphasized that he worked the hardest for the Suriya-starrer, denying fan claims that he didn’t give his best for ET. Pandiraj believes things simply didn’t go his way despite his efforts. However, his statement regarding ET’s collections has stirred major controversy on social media.
Several fans are now lashing out at Pandiraj, arguing that Retro and Kanguva are far ahead of ET in terms of box office performance. Some even allege that the director has aligned himself with people who dislike Suriya and is part of a conspiracy to defame the actor.
