After a fantastic opening day, Rajinikanth’s Coolie maintained a strong hold on day two across all major territories. The gangster action drama surpassed the Rs. 200 crore gross mark at the worldwide box office. Since Coolie is a PAN-Indian film, all eyes were on the Hindi version’s performance from the very beginning.
While initial estimates predicted a Rs. 5–6 crore nett opening, the film debuted at Rs. 4.25 crore nett at the Hindi box office. On day two, Coolie’s Hindi version registered a 50% jump in business, collecting around Rs. 6.5 crore nett and taking its two-day collections to Rs. 10.75 crore nett. The growth was good on Independence Day, though it was somewhat muted due to mixed reports.
The film is now eyeing Rs. 20 crore nett over its extended four-day weekend. The Hindi version is performing best in single screens. The hold on the first Monday will be crucial in estimating the lifetime numbers. Without the clash with War 2, the Kollywood film would likely have performed even better in the Hindi heartland.
