Veteran lyricist Siva Shakthi Datta, father of M M Keeravaani, passes away at 92

Veteran lyricist and writer Siva Shakthi Datta, father of Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravaani, passed away at the age of 92 on July 7, 2025, at his home in Manikonda, Hyderabad, due to age-related ailments.

Known for his poetic depth and classical flair, Datta made lasting contributions to Telugu cinema. He penned memorable lyrics for landmark films like Baahubali, RRR, Magadheera, Rajanna, and Sri Ramadasu, often working alongside his son and his brother, director K. Raghavendra Rao. Songs like “Mamathala Thalli,” “Raamam Raghavam,” and “Nalla Nallani Kalla” reflect his command over language and his ability to blend mythology with emotion. He also directed Chandrahas movie in 2007.

A revered literary figure beyond film, Datta’s work was known for its cultural richness and philosophical depth. His passing has deeply moved the Telugu film fraternity, with tributes pouring in across social media.
