Kingdom: No Hindi theatrical release for Vijay Deverakonda’s film – Here’s why

The much-awaited announcement regarding Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom is finally out. The film, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and co-starring Bhagyashri Borse, is all set to release in cinemas on July 31, 2025 in Telugu and Tamil.

However, what’s notable is that the makers, who had released a Hindi teaser four months ago, have now made no release date announcement for the Hindi version. This has sparked speculation that the team has skipped a theatrical release for Hindi and may be planning to release Saamraajya (the Hindi title of Kingdom) directly on Netflix.

Reports say that Netflix had originally signed a different deal with the makers. However, due to multiple delays, the streaming platform reportedly urged the team to release the film in theatres as soon as possible. Releasing the Hindi version without backing from major multiplex chains wouldn’t be profitable, and the rule that requires at least eight weeks between a theatrical release and its OTT debut would further complicate things. To avoid these challenges, the team is said to have decided to skip a theatrical release for the Hindi version and opt for a direct OTT release instead. An official clarification from the team is still awaited.

In the meantime, it is crucial for the makers to intensify promotional efforts and generate buzz to draw audiences to the theatres. Produced by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, Kingdom features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Stay tuned for more interesting updates on Kingdom.
