Amazon Prime Video, one of the leading OTT platforms in India, has announced a new policy that has left many subscribers unhappy. Starting June 17, 2025, the platform will show limited ads in content, even for users who pay the Rs. 1499 annual subscription. To avoid ads, subscribers will need to pay an extra Rs. 699 per year or Rs. 129 per month for an ad-free experience.
This update has upset many Indian users, who took to social media to share their frustration. While ads have been introduced in other countries, Indian users are not happy about paying extra to watch content without interruptions.
This change might lead to a loss of subscribers, especially since some viewers already turn to illegal streaming websites for content. It remains to be seen how Amazon Prime Video will address this issue and whether they’ll adjust the new policy to suit Indian viewers.
